Admission policies

Admission to GIS is open to all students likely to benefit from the school’s educational programme and to all families who share and commit to the GIS vision and values.

GIS Schools have an Admissions Policy which guides the admissions process and outlines the systems in place for determining the admissions of a family to GIS Monza. The Admissions Policy will be discussed with new families during the Admissions Meetings.

In the case GIS has a waiting list for a class, priority will be given to students in the following categories:

  • Siblings of current GIS student\s
  • Applicants from the international community
  • Applicants who have confirmed that they will accept a place (in chronological order of their initial expression of interest in the school)

Frequently asked questions

As a school which places a high value of multilingualism, competence in English is not a requirement or condition for admission.  International students transferring to Italy may be admitted regardless of their ability in English and EAL provision will be made available by the school.

Italian nationals and students transferring from Italian schools will be admitted on the basis of the projected support needed to access the educational programme at GIS and on the basis of a negotiated agreement as to how the family should contribute to specific EAL provision.

Exceptions to our open admission policy are students with identified learning or behavioral issues where additional support may be necessary on an individual basis.

We are able to provide a limited level of support for students with mild to moderate learning difficulties. We expect parents will inform the school of any previously identified learning needs or previously received support at the time of application. In some cases, parents may be asked to commit to providing extra support for their child, which may take the form of in-class support or out of school provision.  This is usually at the cost of the parent.

Admission is at the discretion of the school and may be denied for various reasons, from full enrollment at the time of application or an evaluation that GIS cannot cater for the student’s individual learning or behavioural needs.  In general, admission will be denied in the following cases:

  • the student has been expelled from their previous school
  • the student does not already have a visa to live in Italy
  • The parent/s may not align with the GIS philosophy
  • The needs of the student fall out of the support level possible at GIS Monza (in this case, GIS may suggest a school who would be able to meet the students’ needs)
