The Secondary school is structured around 3 years of Middle School and 4 years of High school, resulting in students being able to attend universities across the world.
A Bilingual and Multicultural Environment
The Middle school will embrace and celebrate both the English and Italian languages. This dual-language approach aims to foster bilingualism and biculturalism, equipping students with the linguistic and cultural competencies needed for a globalized world.
Multilingualism
In addition to English and Italian, the Middle school curriculum will introduce two additional foreign languages. Students will have the option to choose from a range of languages, allowing them to tailor their learning experience to their interests and future aspirations.

Additionally, students will have the option to sit for the Italian Terza Media exam. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is considered the gold standard among university entrance qualifications worldwide. It is a rigorous and comprehensive academic program that prepares students for higher education and beyond.
The IB-DP is recognized by universities and governments around the world, making it a highly respected qualification for university admissions.
In Italy, the IB Diploma provides legal equivalence to the Italian high school diploma, known as the “state exam” or “Maturità.”
GIS will provide an inquiry-based curriculum facilitating students in understanding International perspectives whilst celebrating the local context and culture.

Elective Enrichment Programme allows explicit teaching of the core values of GIS through genuine and authentic learning experiences built into the timetabled day.
Extended Day Programme facilitates students in developing interests and skills outside of the academic programme. There will be a range of options available for students to take at the end of the School day (16:00 – 17:00).
The Middle school is a three-year programme where students can either select to enter the International strand or the Italian strand.
The curriculum is inquiry-based and will allow students to explore global issues from different perspectives, whilst also being rooted in our local context.
Students across strands will collaborate in their subjects, however, at times those in the different pathways will be working with separate teachers to cover the specific content.
International students will have a greater number of lessons in Science, Mathematics and Humanities taught in English, whilst those in the Italian strand will use this time for additional study in Scienza, Matematica, Storia and Geografia to allow preparation for the Terza Media.
Students will meet with the Principal as part of our admissions process. This provides an opportunity for us to get to know you as a family, your interests, and your ambitions and goals for the future.

There are options available which are focused on creativity and activity, including sporting clubs and individual music lessons.

Students will also have the option of assisted study where they will be able to find support in the completion of their academic work.
Students arrive to school at 08:15am where they will get ready for the school day which finishes at 15:30.
They have a series of 50-minute lessons in their different subjects, using inquiry-based learning.
This teaching methodology includes the following characteristics:
Students will undertake an inquiry-based curriculum that allows the exploration of a range of subjects. They will take a large number of subjects across different disciplines to develop a broad and comprehensive knowledge of subject material and a range of skills.
During the second year of High School, students will start to make subject selections for their final two years which will be guided by mentor assigned through the Personalised Learning Pathway.
Students who are transitioning into the High School who may need further support in language development in preparation for the last two years may have a slight reduction in the subject choices during this time. This will allow for a focus to be placed on the development of the English language to enable the study of subjects in this language in the coming years.
Following the completion of the first two years of High school, students will undertake a range of selected subjects which will be examined at the end of the final two years.

During the final year of High School, students will complete application processes across different institutions and will go through the relevant admission processes. This will include predicted grades, references and transcripts which will all be provided by the school and will be based on assessments students have completed within their four year programme.
Following the successful completion of the High School, the students are able to proceed to Universities across the globe.
The qualification achieved at the end of High School will provide the opportunity to study across the world at renowned institutions and will also allow them to continue studies in both Italy and Switzerland.
