Science ,Technology, Engineering and Mathematics  play a significant role in International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) schools, supporting various aspects of teaching and learning. The focus is given to developing 21st Century Skills, such as digital literacy, communication and collaboration

We understand the importance of future-ready learning.  We do not know what jobs our students will be applying for in the future or indeed the world’s problems they will be solving; but we can equip them with the skills to communicate, to research, to think critically and creatively and to communicate in multiple ways.

Across the school, technology is integrated following the IB guidelines.  Educators plan experiences where students may use technology within their research, to present their learning or to investigate how the world works through the use of technology.

We teach the language of Coding, beginning in the Early Years with Bee Bots, moving through the lower primary years with Lego Education and moving into Scratch 3.0 in the Upper Primary to explore Block Based Coding

Robotics are a key step to fully integrating AI into teaching and learning and provide GIS students with 21st century skills which strengthen mathematical skills, reasoning skills and metacognition whilst reinforcing the IB Learner Profile attributes.

Robotics also enhances critical future ready skills such as collaboration, resilience, independence and critical thinking. Our PY3-PY5 students use MBot2 robots across the curriculum to explore Artificial Intelligence in a variety of contexts.

GIS Monza provides more traditional technology such as an Overhead Projector for investigation into light combined with modern technology such as the MBot2 robots.  In PY1-2 students are provided with an iPad on a 1:2 basis and from PY3 upwards students have a personal iPad provided by the school.
